Malika-e-Tarannum

The Queen of Melody, a title given to Late Noor Jehan for her beautiful voice and enchanting songs. A very deserving title indeed.

Noor Jehan Started singing when she was only 6 and soon her melodious voice was cherished all over British India. Her songs were much more than mere words, its said that her tunes rose patriotism among the soldiers in the battle field during the Pakistan-India War in 1965. One of my favorites is ‘Watan ke Sajeele Jawano’

Ae Watan K Sajeeley Jawano
Mere Naghmey Tumharey Liye Hain

Sarfaroshi Hai Eemaan Tumhara
Jurraton K Paristaar Ho Tum
Jo Hifazzat Karey Sarhadon Ki
Woh Falakbos Deewar Ho Tum

Ae Shujaaat K Zinda Nishano
Mere Naghmey Tumharey Liye Hain
Mere Naghmey Tumhaaaarey Liye Hain

Beewiyon, Maaon, Behnon Ki Nazrein
Tum Ko Dekhein To Yun Jagmagayen
Jaisey Khamoshiyon Ki Zaban Se
De Rahee Hon Woh Tum Ko Duaen

Kom K Ae Jarrri Paasbano
Mere Naghmey Tumharey Liye Hain
Mere Naghmey Tumhaaaarey Liye Hain

Tum Pe Jo Kuch Likha Shairoon Ne
Us Mein Shamil Hai Waz Meri
Urr K Pohancho Ge Tum Jis Falak Per
Saath Jaye Gi Parwaaz Meri

Chaand Taron K Ae Raazdaro
Mere Naghmey Tumharey Liye Hain
Mere Naghmey Tumhaaaarey Liye Hain

Ae Watan K Sajeeley Jawaano .

It’s such a beautiful poem, I want to translate for my non Urdu Speaking readers and I shall, in near future.

My grandfather tells me stories of her songs being played on radio all day long, her enchanting voice echoing the bare walls of the tents at war, generations sitting together dwelling in the rhythm of her voice. She left this world in 2000 but her melodies are till date listened and appreciated all over the globe.

Listen to her beautiful Songs here:
